“Major” flooding caused by a malfunctioning fire sprinkler caused an estimated $400,000 in damage to the East Pasadena offices of Tetra Tech and Bolton Insurance Co. early Sunday morning, the Pasadena Fire Dept. reports.

Authorities say the fire dept. responded at 5:28 a.m. to a reported water flow alarm at a building in the 3400 block of  E. Foothill Blvd.

Upon arrival, fire dept. personnel say they found “a major flooded condition and requested additional resources. ” It was determined that a fire sprinkler had activated in the ceiling of the second floor.

Water was shut off to the system, officials report, and salvage operations began on the first and second floors. Fire dept. personnel continued cleanup operations until a responsible party from the building’s ownership arrived.

During the operations, Pasadena Fire dept. was assisted by both the Arcadia and Glendale Fire Depts.  The Battalion Chief at the scene reported a total of 24 personnel responded to the incident.

Official says the incident caused an estimated $300,000 in damage to the building and an additional $100,000 to its contents.
