Pasadena City College women’s soccer sophomore Sophia Noriega, a two-year starting forward, has chosen her next destination–NAIA University of Antelope Valley in Lancaster. Noriega is the second Lancer to commit after Katy Coats signed with NCAA Division II MSU Denver in January.

Noriega was third on the 2019 Lancers in points (12), goals (four) and assists (six). She came to PCC from Glendale High where she was an All-Pacific League Second Team selection as a senior and helped her school reach the CIF playoffs after a 15-year absence.

At PCC, Noriega scored goals in three separate Lancers victories and she was the only Pasadena player to find the net against South Coast Conference champion Rio Hondo, the state’s No. 5-ranked team.

At UAV, Noriega will play for the Pioneers new head coach in Diego Cocon. Noriega performed both of her seasons at PCC under interim head coach Francisco Cantero, a former teammate of Cocon on the successful Kansas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team in 2012.
