USC Trojan Affiliates Day of Scervice at Hillsides

Published on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 | 4:20 am

Trojan Affiliates participated in the 4th Annual University of Southern California’s International “Day of SCervice,” a worldwide effort on behalf of Trojan Alumni to assist and, “give back,” to their respective communities by orchestrating service projects. Simultaneously, each year, thousands of Trojans and friends gather across the globe to make a difference within their unique communities.

This year’s Day of SCervice Chairperson, Rosanne Berlen, implemented the Trojan Affiliates project at Hillsides School by conducting a customized art project with the children that Hillsides serves as well as a community recruitment of Supplies for their on-going and creative therapeutic Art Program. Rosanne is a philanthropist and local Realtor with the John Aaroe Group in Pasadena. Her enthusiasm and organizational skills truly made the event successful and enjoyable for the children and participants, alike. Rosanne’s Co-Chair was Brianna Berlen, actor. Other event staff included Colleen Evans and Valerie Weiss of San Marino, Susie Rhodes of Pasadena and Kandi Wopschall of La Canada Flintridge.

Trojan Affiliates’ Volunteers spent the day welcoming and receiving art supply donations that were dropped off by Pasadena residents at the Hillsides campus as some of the children enjoyed utilizing their artistic painting skills to create individual artwork on canvas that will be displayed in an upcoming art exhibition this summer.

Enthusiastic Trojan Affiliates Members provided the paints, brushes and canvases for the creation of the children’s projects. They also conducted a campaign to recruit art supply donations from community members, other USC alums and interested parties.
