Alverno High School Defeats Glendale in First Non-Conference Game of Season

The Alverno High School Jaguars broke in their new uniforms on a rainy December 3 afternoon against the Glendale Nitros for their first non-conference game of the season. Control of the ball went back and forth between the two teams for the first half. The Jaguars first opportunity to score came late in the first half as Junior forward Emma Cavender pressured the Nitros goalkeeper.

Coach Ken Berry made adjustments in the second half to add more speed to the offense. Senior defender Olivia Rivas was moved to forward and freshman defender Jazmin Rebollo was moved to outside-mid. Rivas scored late in the second half. Freshman Subrina Hamdan defended well in front of the goal and freshman goalkeeper Ayanna Melin made a save from a Nitros corner kick to preserve the lead.
