Alverno High School Graduation 2013
For 47 girls studying at Alverno High School, it’s the end of one journey, and the start of another.
On Friday June 7, at 6:30 p.m., Alverno will be having its commencement exercises for this year’s graduates.
The commencement speaker will be Ada Gates Patton, a former New York debutante, Broadway dancer, fashion model, and owner of the Harry Patton Horseshoeing Supplies in Monrovia. Ada is the first and only woman journeyman farrier of thoroughbred horses in the nation.
Ada inspects the shoes of every horse taking part in the Rose Parade every year, and though she does not do the physically tough day-to-day work of shoeing horses these days, Ada supervises the workers and was recently inducted in the American Farriers Hall of Fame.
Prior to the graduation ceremonies, a Baccalaureate Mass will take place on Thursday June 6, at 6:30 p.m at St. Rita’s Church in Sierra Madre. Seniors who have earned honor cords will be presented with them during the mass.
Announcement of valedictorian and salutatorian this year will be at Alverno’s Annual Award Ceremony on Tuesday, May 21.
