Aveson Eighth Graders to Experience “Rite of Passage” Activities
Aveson Global Leadership Academy eighth grade students will participate in an action-filled week-long Rite of Passage Trip in May, 2014 at the Great Basin Outdoor School in Lake Tahoe, NV.
“As our 8th graders prepare for the very exciting, yet difficult leap from middle school to high school, we have prepared an experience that will enlighten and enrich as well as challenge our students to demonstrate what they learned as global learners,” a school spokesperson wrote. “Their ability to weigh perspectives, communicate ideas and take action will be on display prior to and during this experience.”
The Aveson students will participate in academic, service, leadership, and team building activities. Students will prepare for the trip with linked curriculum in Projects and Literacy classes.
As part of their Project work students will spend a day taking action by planting trees at a nature reserve near the Great Basin Outdoor School through Plant Trees 4 Life and PT4L planting partner Sugar Pine Foundation.
The character-building project will be conducted in partnership with Plant Trees 4 Life and the Great Basin Outdoor School
Plant Trees 4 Life is based in Aspen, Colorado. Their vision is to plant trees to support the future of the planet for our children. Their trees are planted to honor significant people and events. Their goal is to plant 1 million trees in 10 years. They are committed to offset the impact of deforestation from clear cutting, insect kill and fires.
Aveson says its students are proud to be a part of the amazing work Plant Trees 4 Life is doing, and “beyond excited” to be able to work with The Great Basin Outdoor School to take local action to make a difference, while building community and strengthening skills in science and conservation.
The school says sup[porters can help raise funds for the trip with the purchase of a tree by clicking the link: https://edu.planttrees4life.com/SO/81
