Basketball Hotshot Joe Odhiambo Visits St. Monica Academy
Students of St. Monica Academy were in for a treat as Joe Odhiambo, world-record holder in basketball spinning and dribbling, visited the school to demonstrate his awe-inspiring skills. He was a sight to behold—dribbling, spinning, and juggling up to five balls all at once! He even taught two students how to dribble four basketballs simultaneously.
The demonstration was part of Odhiambo’s motivational talk on achieving goals through perseverance. He lectured on the importance of faith, encouraged students to make right choices, and inspired them to reach for their dreams—no matter how big.
Students were impressed and entertained by Odhiambo who currently holds the following records: dribbling six basketballs simultaneously for one minute; spinning one basketball the longest (4 hours and 15 minutes); dribbling one basketball the longest (26 hours and 40 minutes); juggling three basketballs while shooting 42 layups in one minute; and spinning a basketball on one hand without touching it with the other hand (37.46 seconds).
Odhiambo, a native of Kenya and star player on the Kenya National Basketball Team, graduated with degrees in computer science and mathematics from Grand Canyon University and Arizona State University. After graduation, Odhiambo worked as a computer programmer and statistical analyst before becoming a motivational speaker, basketball coach, and entertainer.
