Seventh-graders extract the DNA from a strawberry in Mr. Calderon’s lab. Students first mashed the berry down to a liquid using–what else?–hammers, then mixed in some soapy salt solution. Approximately 30 alumni swimmers joined Coach Joe Zambrano and the current Swim/Dive team on December 21 for the Maranatha’s first annual Alumni Swim Meet. Alumni ranged from 2011 graduates to 2007 graduates, who started when the Swim program officially began at Maranatha in 2005 on their new campus. Though many alumni had not swam competitively
Eighth-graders stopped in to first grade classrooms to help count the money raised with the first grade penny drive. Later this month, first-graders will use the funds to buy socks, underwear and pajamas for the Kids Kloset in Families in Transition.
As part of the Social Studies unit on immigration, third-graders participated in an experiential exercise today. Students were divided by their last names into different groups to do an art exercise.
