Congratulations to Blair Winners in the Martin Luther King Art and Essay Contest



Blair High School are winners again in the annual Martin Luther King Essay and Art Contest.

In the Essay contest, middle school division, the essays of 6th grader Ian Macklin Sims and 7th grader Elise Viapiano were chosen. Both are students of Ms. McLaughlin. Blair 10th grader Anjali Roos of Mr. Dakan’s class is a winner in the high school division.

Essay winners will present their essays at a Martin Luther King Jr. event later this month, where 1st, 2nd and 3rd place among all the finalists will be announced

In the Art contest, Blair 7th grader Melanie Cabrera has won 1st place for the middle school division!

In the high school division of the Art contest, Blair also has a 1st place winner, Alana Connor! Alana is in 11th grade and a student of Ms. Martinez. The high school division 3rd place winner is from Blair as well, Gadiel Isidro.

Blair’s winners were chosen from approximately 800 essays and 300 pieces of artwork submitted by students in the Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre and La Canada communities, from both Pasadena Unified School District and private schools.

The Pasadena MLK Community Coalition has held this annual competition for the last 30 years. The Coalition provides a different essay question and art theme each year.
