Dr. Gayle D. Beebe

The culminating activity of Maranatha High School’s Senior Class will occur on Saturday, May 30 as it celebrates the Class of 2015 with its 50th Year Commencement Ceremony at Lake Avenue Church. Over 2,000 proud parents, family members, and friends will be in attendance to witness this special event to commemorate the Senior Class.

At commencement, awards will be given to students honoring their academic excellence, athletic achievements, and Christian character. In addition, attendees will hear from the Class of 2015 Co-Valedictorians Joe Laski and Devin Robledo. Our Headmaster Dr. Gyertson will address the graduates, and Maranatha is honored to have Dr. Gayle D. Beebe (shown right), the president of Westmont College as the keynote speaker. Dr. Beebe became Westmont’s eighth president in 2007 after serving as president of Spring Arbor University in Michigan for seven years. He is an active scholar and has published and edited several publications. He received master’s degrees in divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, in philosophy of religion and theology from Claremont Graduate University, and in business administration in strategic management from the Peter F. Drucker School at Claremont Graduate University. He completed his doctorate in philosophy of religion and theology at Claremont Graduate University in 1997. Prior to leading Spring Arbor University, he served as dean of the school of theology at Azusa Pacific University.

Dr. Gyertson praises Dr. Beebe as “one of the most effective leaders of Christ-centered higher education, not only in the United States, but also globally. His passion for excellence, firmly grounded in the person and teachings of Jesus Christ, have inspired and informed my own journey. We are privileged to have him share in our Commencement activities.”

MHS Class of 2015 students have been accepted to many of the nation’s most prestigious private institutions like Purdue University, Northeastern University, Emerson College, Brown University, Gonzaga University, and Carnegie Mellon University, as well as California’s top universities such as UC Berkeley, USC, UCLA, and Loyola Marymount University. A large population of the Senior Class will also continue to pursue an outstanding Christian education at schools like Azusa Pacific University, Seattle Pacific University, Biola University, and Westmont College. As the MHS seniors end one chapter of their life and start a new one, we pause to reflect on all the God has done in their lives and pray that they would hold fast to their faith in Jesus as they move out into the world.

Commencement will begin at 10:00 a.m. Limited parking is available in the church lot and there will also be shuttle service available to remote parking. Click here for the Shuttle Map. Tickets are required for entry. Please contact your favorite graduate for tickets or MHS’ Vice Principal Linda Mackessy at (626) 817-4090.
