Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy Announces Summer Fine Arts Camp for Girls 2014



The Summer Arts Camp at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy invites young artists between 6th and 8th grades to participate in a diverse arts curriculum, including dance, ceramics & sculpture, improv in theatre, and instrumental and vocal music.

Session I ($300): July 7 – July 11, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Session II ($300): July 14 – July 18, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Session III ($300): July 21 – July 25, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Ceramics and Sculpture
Students are introduced to materials and techniques used in ceramic and sculpture classes at FSHA. Students will explore the use of various sculptural materials such as paper mache, fibers, clay, cardboard, wire and assemblage.

Dance Workshop I
Students need no prior dance experience, just the desire to learn the art of DANCE! This one, two or three-week workshop will fuse all the popular styles of dance as seen on such television shows as So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With the Stars and Dance Moms. Taught by a professional dancer/choreographer, you’ll get one-on-one tips on how to create your own dances while learning basic dance technique, and strengthening your performance skills. The class will culminate with a collaborative dance piece. If dance is your passion or you just want to expand your horizons, then this is the class for you!

Dance Workshop II
This one-, two- or three-week workshop is designed for students with previous dance training. Students will continue to strengthen their movement vocabulary while expanding their creative skills. Taught by a professional dancer/choreographer, the concentration will be on contemporary, jazz and hip-hop styles of dance. Students will get one-on-one tips on how to master dance technique, create choreography and strengthen performance skills. The workshop will culminate with a collaborative dance piece. Come share your dance passion with others in a friendly and nurturing environment, and learn how the pros do it!

Improv in Theatre
The theatre improvisation class at FSHA Summer Arts Camp encourages students to take chances and stretch their skills in a safe, supportive and friendly environment. Students can use their improv skills to be more confident in all areas of life.

Instrumental Music
Instrumental Music is a workshop for students who want to develop skill on an instrument. Students may be at any level from novice to advance. The workshop emphasizes string instrument technique, but students may bring their own non-string instruments. Students are introduced to note reading,improvisation and composition. They will develop awareness of pitch, rhythm and harmony; learn to play as an ensemble; and create professional recordings of their final performances.

Vocal Music
Vocal Music is a workshop that helps young singers to sing with confidence by developing practical technique and effective song interpretation to create powerful performances. Students participate in interactive vocal exercises; develop awareness of pitch, rhythm and harmony; and create professional recordings of their final performances.
