Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy: Swimmers Past and Present Win Accolades

With the 2011-12 swim season winding down and the U.S. Olympic Trials heating up, several Tologs are making names for themselves on the national level.

After going undefeated in the Mission League and sending a number of swimmers onto CIFs, coach Steve Bergen was named Coach of the Year by the Glendale News-Press. One of his star swimmers, Kirsten Vose ’16, was not only named to the Los Angeles Daily News’ all-area first team for swimming, but her time in the 100-meter breaststroke also earned her a spot as a 2012 All-American!

Katie Altmayer ’14 and Emily Balog ’13 made the Daily News’ second team, and the 200 medley relay team of Kirsten, Katie, Emily and Meg Ryan ’13 just missed out on an All-American time. Caroline Bender ’15, the team’s only diver, also narrowly missed out on becoming an All-American.

In addition, this week’s U.S. Olympic Trials in swimming feature an all-star Tolog, Andrea Kropp ’10, who now swims for USC. She’s competing in four races: 400 individual medley, 100 breaststroke, 200 IM and 200 breaststroke. She’s currently ranked sixth among female swimmers in the U.S. for the 200 breaststroke. Watch her work toward a spot on the U.S. Olympic team on NBC and its affiliates.
