Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy: Vocations Hot Topic at Thursday Assembly

Campus Minister Kelley Dawson organized a unique assembly for FSHA students on Thursday, March 8. A panel of eight adults spoke about their vocations—whether a career, lifestyle or relationship.

The panel consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Tramontin, who are the in-laws of Mrs. Kelly Tramontin and have been married for 36 years; Ms. Emily Wilson, the campus minister at Louisville High School; Sr. Mary Therese (pictured), who is staying on the FSHA campus for the next three months; Jenny Hull, the adoptive mother of former conjoined twin Josie who spoke at last year’s Suegene Kim Assembly; Ms. Annemarie Bacich, FSHA’s assistant principal; Mrs. Karen Thompson, FSHA’s journalism teacher; and Mr. Mario Pariante, who teaches AP U.S. History.

In her introduction to the assembly, Mrs. Dawson defined a vocation as a person’s purpose or calling. Each panelist then described how they had known that their marriage or career choice was the right path for them before taking questions from the students.

When asked who inspired her to become a teacher, Mrs. Thompson—who worked as a journalist before turning to teaching—said that it wasn’t one particular person, but all of the young people she’s encountered. “You are the reason I’m a teacher,” she said.

Romance and marriage were points of curiosity for Tologs, who asked Ms. Wilson about her experiences as a young woman in the dating pool, and Mr. and Mrs. Tramontin about whether they had ever been bored throughout their marriage. They said no, with Mr. Tramontin adding, “One of the most important things is, you gotta have a sense of humor! Life, otherwise, is gonna crush you!”
