L.A. Parent to Donate Over 1,000 Books to Cleveland Elementary School on Dec. 6

L.A. Parent, the leading resource for parents in Los Angeles when it comes to family-friendly places to go and things to do, will proudly donate 1,069 children’s books to the library of Cleveland Elementary School in the Pasadena Unified School District on Dec. 6. The donation will take place during a school-wide assembly from 2-3 p.m. in the school auditorium (524 Palisade Street, Pasadena).

LA based artist Heidi Swedberg and Daniel Ward from the Sukey Jump Band, will perform their signature interactive, ukulele-inflected songs as part of the program.

Almost half of Cleveland Elementary students are English learners, and around 88% are socioeconomically disadvantaged, according to Principal Shannon Malone, who notes that new books are an effective avenue to capture their attention and spark their interest in reading. “Our kids just need to read more – and enjoy it,” she says. “For a lot of these kids, there’s no bookshelf at home.”

“We’re thrilled to make this donation,” said L.A. Parent Director of Content and co-owner Elena Epstein. “We launched our Cover to Cover program to reach schools throughout Los Angeles County and emphasize reading, and thanks to the generosity of our readers and many national publishers, we have enough books to really upgrade the book collection at Cleveland.”

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, in conjunction with Booksicals, has donated 250 books, enabling every child at Cleveland Elementary to go home on Dec. 6 with a book in hand.
