Lights On! Afterschool

Launched in October 2000, Lights On! Afterschool is a nationwide celebration of the many after school services provided for youth. The event has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year. Pasadena Unified School District’s PasadenaLEARNs After School Program, After School Adventures Program, The YMCA, Day One, The Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, College Access Plan, A Step Ahead and The Partnership for Children Youth and Families are working together to highlight our community’s wonderful after school programs.

The Pasadena Unified School District services approximately 20,000 youth and children. Of those 20,000, almost half of them are served by one of our community’s after school programs!

Dr. Brian McDonald, Superintendent of the Pasadena Unified School District, invites you to join the communities of Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre in a weeklong celebration of afterschool programs beginning Monday, October 19, 2015 and ending Friday, October 23, 2015. The Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families in conjunction with community afterschool programs will host a community event on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at El Portal Restaurant from 5:30-7:30pm. Join local business owners, city officials, district employees, and community members in highlighting the tremendous work of afterschool programs in our communities. The event sends powerful messages that, while millions of children are served after school, many continue to need quality afterschool programs. Find out what you can do to support afterschool programs.
