Maranatha High School welcomed over 1000 people back to campus on October 4 to celebrate Homecoming 2013. Besides winning the JV game on Thursday and both the Freshmen and Varsity football games on Friday against Mountain View High School, Maranatha welcomed alumni and many other special guests, while they celebrated staff and students. Before the game, the school honored several staff marking a milestone year of service to Maranatha: Ed Newkirk – Theology Faculty, 30 Years; Anne Stapleton – Bookkeeper, 15 years; Eddie Arnett ’96 – Assistant Athletic Director, 10 years; Sarah Crane – Languages Faculty, 10 years; Becky Kuchenski – Learning Lab Faculty, 10 years; and Brenda Schlenker – Art Faculty, 10 years.

Headmaster Dr. David Gyertson stated, “Almost fifty years ago, the vision for Maranatha was born in the hearts of a dedicated group of parents, faculty and friends who believed that a quality college preparatory education in an intentional Christ-centered context could inform and inspire new generations of leaders to serve God’s purposes in education, work and society. Today that mission remains strong and focused.”

Students enjoy the new 1:1 iPad program in every class.

The special evening included an Alumni pre-game party, campus tours, In ‘n Out burgers, performances by the drum line, cheerleaders, and dance team, the unveiling of new football uniforms, as well as a special National Anthem performance by the Mixed Ensemble and Alumni Choir. Half time was filled with excitement as the homecoming court, escorted by their parents, took center stage and the homecoming king and queen were revealed as seniors Nick Scanlan and Madie Johnson. Queen Madie serves as a chaplain on the school’s Ministry Team, is a captain on the Swim Team, and participated in the Guatemala mission trip two years ago. King Nick is on the Football Team and Dive Team, and can be seen generating enthusiasm on campus as the Co-Commissioner of Spirit. He also served on the school’s Nicaragua mission trip last summer.

Maranatha is less than two years away from their 50th anniversary and they are already gearing up for a grand celebration. The school has enjoyed not only increased enrollment over the last several years, but increased SAT and AP scores and thriving athletic and performing arts programs. Their annual Open House will run on Saturday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. No RSVP is necessary.
