Maranatha High School’s First Home Game and Field Dedication
Last Friday, the local Maranatha community came together for its first home football game of the year against Bassett. Not only did Maranatha start the season with a win, but the game was special in another way – it was the first official game on its newly refurbished field. Before the game, members of the Board of Trustees joined Headmaster Dr. Gyertson on the field to officially dedicate the field and offer a prayer for all those that practice, compete, and enjoy it throughout its lifespan.
Before the national anthem, the crowd took a minute to honor the men and women who serve to protect the country as well as the many humanitarian and missions organizations who are selflessly serving within the various crises around the world and putting themselves in harm’s way each day. They also took a moment to reflect on its heritage, the “Minutemen”, who fought for the country, at a minute’s notice; and Maranatha’s school colors – red, blue and white, that so appropriately complement the school’s mascot. Keeping in that spirit, the students wore patriotic bandanas in an act of unity, and to remember and honor the school’s great heritage and our great nation! Maranatha expresses its appreciation to ASB and the Booster Club for spearheading this effort.
A large crowd turned out to support the Minutemen. The game was also the first played under the leadership of new head coach Steve Bogan. After a rough start in the first quarter in which the Minutemen fell behind Bassett’s Olympians 12-0, the Minutemen rebounded and dominated the remainder of the game, winning 42-20.
