Maranatha’s Evening of Christmas

Maranatha High School families filled the Ambassador Auditorium for a special touch of holiday spirit at the annual all-school Christmas celebration, “Evening of Christmas: Light of Heaven”. The evening included music and dance featuring the school’s Mixed Ensemble, Orchestra, and Dance Company.

The program began with a tribute to the sights and sounds of the season, including three dances from “The Nutcracker,” performed by the Dance Company and Orchestra, a hip-hop version of “We Three Kings,” complete with DJ, and a rousing rendition of “African Alleluia,” performed by Mixed Ensemble, providing their own percussion background. The evening ended with a celebration of the “light” of the five candles of Advent, featuring Mixed Ensemble performing pieces by Britten and John Rutter, and a retelling of the story of the nativity through dance that was both creative and stirring.

What made the evening even more significant was the attendance of their special guests from Hillsides and the ability to once again celebrate Christmas together.

Maranatha’s Performing Arts Department will be performing next at “Overture” on January 14 at 7:00 p.m., which is an intimate evening for prospective families interested in the Arts at Maranatha. No RSVP is necessary and families can contact John Wells at j_wells@mhs-hs.org for more information. Maranatha’s spring production will be the Broadway musical “Big Fish” held March 12-14 in the Ambassador Auditorium. Tickets will be available at www.maranatha-hs.org/boxoffice in February, with complimentary tickets available for prospective families.
