Mayfield Junior School: A Tribute to Native American Storytelling and Myth

Mayfield Junior School’s third graders presented the annual Native-American Play for parents and friends on Thursday, January 30. The play offers an opportunity for the children to share their knowledge of Native American culture, belief and customs, and is a tribute to the tradition of storytelling as a way for the tribe elders to pass on history and explain the natural world.

Through narration and dramatization, the children explain the myth of how California was made and how different tribes understood the changes seasons and cycles of the moon.
