Mr. Flintridge Prep ’15

With his 10,000 kilowatt smile, natty attire and undisputed mastery of slam poetry and rap, not to mention his good nature and very professional wave, Evan Monroe ’15 took home the coveted title of Mr. Flintridge Prep on March 20, 2015. Monroe won dual titles: Mr. Congeniality, bestowed upon him by his fellow competitors, as well as the evening’s crown (and sash).

Twelve senior boys, selected from a field of 24 applicants, vied for the honor of being Mr. Flintridge Prep ’15. There were group and individual events showcasing a high degree of pomp and silliness. Runner-up Elliott Witter ’15, for instance, presented an intricate dance with a large inflatable beach ball (he was expertly partnered by Eric Kang ’15). Miles Harber ’15 spoofed too-serious rock stars and Jonathan Wang ’15 performed a disastrous “magic” show for the packed house in Norris Auditorium.

It was the tenth year of the beauty-pageant spoof, invented by students as a fun fundraiser and third quarter salute to seniors. Mrs. Reggie Ursettie produced the show, with help from choreographers Lauren Au ’15, Bailey Thompson ’15, and Wallis Herzog ’14, and emcees Betsy Roy ’15 and Chae Kim ’15. Mr. Flintridge Preps from previous years made appearances on the giant video screen between acts.

For ten years, the pageant has raised money for charity. This year, Mr. Flintridge Prep raised $3,400 for Elizabeth House in Pasadena, a shelter for homeless pregnant women and their families. This year was especially fun, according to Mrs. Ursettie, because so many students, both boys and girls, participated in everything from skits to escorting to creating the sash and crown that Evan Monroe will wear proudly for the coming year.
