Pasadena Area Federal Courts to Host Power Lunch for Local Students

To commemorate Law Day 2016. the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Central District and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District invited approximately 50 students from John Muir High School in Pasadena to a Power Lunch at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Law Day has been an American tradition for nearly 60 years. President Dwight D. Eisenhower established the first Law Day in 1958 to mark the nation’s commitment to the rule of law. In 1961, Congress designated May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day.

During the Law Day Power Lunch, judges. lawyers. and other professionals will meet with small groups of students over lunch to discuss the law, the legal system and their carens. The event will also include a slide show introducing the participants, and the students will enjoy a rousing game of Legal Jeopardy! which is played like Jeopardy! but with legal categories such as -Who’s Who in the Courtroom” and “Think Like a Lawyer.”

Law Day Power Lunch will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016, 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the The Richard H. Chambers Courthouse (125 South Grand Ave., Pasadena).
