Pasadena Unified Presents Parent Education Seminar on the Transition to Middle School

Making the transition from elementary to middle school can be exciting —and daunting for students and parents. To help ease the transition, Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) counselors and teachers present Middle School Prep for Parents, a parent education seminar on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Blair Middle School, located at 1201 S. Marengo St., Pasadena.

Designed for parents of students who will enter sixth grade in the 2014-2015 school year, the seminar includes a guide to middle school curriculum and the new Common Core state learning standards. Counselors will discuss the daily schedule, passing periods, the transition to semesters, the requirements to promote from middle to high school and an overview of electives. Counselors, teachers and parents will also discuss how the involvement of parents changes during the middle school years, how parents can help their children master important organization and planning skills, and how parents can partner with school staff to help adolescents excel during the crucial and occasionally awkward middle school years.

Middle School Prep for Parents is sponsored by PUSD’s Family Resource Center which supports parents, teachers and staff in building partnerships for student achievement. For more information on this and other parent education opportunities, visit www.parent-center.pasadenausd.org.
