Pasadena Unified Presents “Ready. Set. Kindergarten!” to Prepare the Parents of Its Newest Students

Continuing its spring series of parent education seminars, the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) presents Ready. Set. Kindergarten!, an informative and interactive session to help parents of entering kindergartners prepare for the 2014-2015 school year. Presented by PUSD early childhood education teachers, the seminars include information on how to prepare young students for the first day of kindergarten, an introduction to the kindergarten curriculum, and fun, interactive learning activities for families.

To be eligible for kindergarten in PUSD, a child must turn five years old by Sept. 1, 2014. Transitional kindergarten is also offered for children who turn five between September 2, 2014 and December 2, 2014, providing age appropriate instruction to students born later in the year before they progress to a traditional kindergarten class.

Parents and guardians can begin registering incoming kindergarten students by visiting their local PUSD campus starting in March. To locate a neighborhood school, visit gopusd.com/locator. A parent/guardian must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, proof of rent or home ownership within PUSD’s boundaries and a recent utility bill in the parent/guardian’s name to register a child for kindergarten.

The Ready. Set. Kindergarten! Parent education seminars are sponsored by PUSD’s Family Resource Center, which supports parents, teachers and staff in building partnerships for student achievement in partnership with the district’s Coordinated Early Intervention Services program.
