Polytechnic School Union Station Mural Project: Seniors Took to the Metro

Union Station mural project: Poly Seniors in Cotter Donnell’s and Nathan Stogdill’s City of Angels AP English/Urban Studies class took the Metro to Union Station today. Students were divided into groups and challenged to design a mural for the station’s 75th anniversary. Sure, it’s a hypothetical assignment, but like all projects in the class, students were asked to use texts from class, as well as their field experiences, to unlock the complexities of the city. Says Dr. Stodgill, “I want them to not look at sunshine the same way. What are the valences of this light? There’s a history.” For this project, students were keeping in mind the history as well as the future of the space, the literal point of arrival for a lot of western migration over the last 75 years.
