PUSD Commemorates MLK, Jr.



Students, staff and community members will commemorate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday with a series of events over the next week.

The celebration begins Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m. with readings and displays of art by finalists and winners of the annual Martin Luther King (MLK) Community Coalition Art and Essay Contest. The event will be at Don Benito Fundamental Elementary School, 3700 Denair St., Pasadena. Admission is free.

On Saturday, Jan. 16, Hamilton Elementary School will host “A Day On, Not Off” from 8:00 a.m. to noon with a morning of campus beautification, landscaping and planting. The event is designed to encourage individuals to improve their community to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King.

On Monday, Jan. 18, at 8:00 a.m., the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday breakfast and celebration at Jackie Robinson Park (1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena) is presented by the MLK Community Coalition, PUSD, Pasadena Tournament of Roses, and Aspires West of Pasadena in conjunction with the city of Pasadena, and the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Gamma Lambda chapter. Student finalists are presented awards for their participation in the essay and visual and performing arts contest. There will be music, dance, food, and arts and crafts for kids.
