Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Sierra Madre Elementary Classroom Buildings

Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Jon R. Gundry will join representatives from the city of Sierra Madre, Sierra Madre Elementary School students, faculty and parents for a ceremonial ribbon cutting for the new classroom building and preschool room at Sierra Madre Elementary School on Tuesday, June 4, 10:00 a.m.

The ceremony marks the completion of 14 months of construction of the $2.85 million facility. The project was funded by Measure TT, the $350 million school bond initiative approved by voters in 2008. The new buildings replace six modular buildings and serve approximately 200 students in pre-kindergarten, fourth grade and fifth grade.

Sierra Madre School began in 1882 as a one-room schoolhouse in the center of town on Kersting Court. The original school bell still hangs in that location today. The streetcar line came through town in 1905, and the school was moved to Highland and Auburn streets. A total renovation in 1930 created one of the most beautiful schools in the country, designed in the Spanish mission revival style. The new buildings were designed in a similar style to blend in with the other buildings on campus. The Sierra Madre Elementary campus serves over 700 pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students.

The project was designed by PBWS Architects LLP and was constructed by Shenk Developers. Members of the public are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Sierra Madre Elementary School is located at 141 W. Highland Ave., Sierra Madre. Enter on Auburn Avenue. For more information, visit sierramadre.pasadenausd.org.
