St. Francis Golfer Nominated for National Award from The First Tee of Greater Pasadena

Stian Lintvedt from The First Tee of Greater Pasadena and a sophomore at St. Francis High School, has been selected as one of eight semifinalists for The First Tee Outstanding Participant Award presented by Shell Oil Company. This national award recognizes exemplary achievement in the area of academics, community service, chapter involvement and leadership. The First Tee is an international non–‐profit youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. Through its green grass, in school and after school programs, The First Tee helps shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf.

As a semifinalist for The First Tee Outstanding Participant Award, Lintvedt will attend The First Tee Outstanding Participant & Leadership Summit, an interactive and educational event in which teen participants will have the opportunity to develop and hone skills to become leaders in their chapters, schools and communities. The summit will be held March 11–‐15, 2015 in Dallas in conjunction with The First Tee Network Meeting, a biennial conference for chapter representatives of The First Tee.

Among the dignitaries scheduled to address the teenagers at the summit are President George W. Bush, New York Times bestselling author James Patterson and World Golf Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam.

Educational workshops during the summit will cover a variety of topics including the importance of community service and volunteerism, financial literacy, social media and more and will be presented by experts in these fields. During the workshops, Lintvedt will develop plans for leading a meaningful service project in our community as a way to apply the skills and concepts learned at the three–‐day summit.

Lintvedt, 16, is a sophomore at St. Francis High School in La Canada Flintridge. He embodies the leadership skills and characteristics that define The First Tee Outstanding Participants. Active at his chapter for 8 years, he’s participated in the 2014 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, is currently in the Eagle level program and is an assistant coach for the chapter’s adaptive program that works with Ability First special needs participants. “I am excited to have this opportunity to go to The First Tee’s Annual Conference in Dallas to represent my chapter, The First Tee of Greater Pasadena, as an Outstanding Participant Award semifinalist,” said Lintvedt, “ I joined when I was 8 years old, and got lots of great opportunities to experience many different things through The First Tee. In praise of Lintvedt’s achievement, The First Tee of Greater Pasadena’s executive director Bob Baderian commented, “On behalf of the Board of Directors I wish to congratulate Stian for this outstanding recognition. Stian truly represents our Chapter and the many thousands of boys and girls who have participated in our programs with the highest level of positive life enhancing skills as well as giving back to the community.”
