St.Francis High School Cross Country Preview – Fall 2014

The Golden Knights return to action this fall promising another season of exciting results. Coming off of a disappointing team finish from last season while beset with a number of injuries, this season offers new hope for the team.

This year’s team returns seven runners who have competed on Varsity over the past few seasons. Several of those athletes come off very strong track seasons last spring. St. Francis will be led by Seniors Ian Gordon, Adam Lyons, Jack Lyons, and Griffin Taylor, all of whom hope to leave their legacy at the school. Additionally, Juniors Chris Rodriguez, Bowen Waugh, and Michael Vega look to leave their impact on the team.

Other athletes that are looking to move up into the Varsity ranks include Juniors Ryan Hambley, Josh Lee, and Eric Peacock. As usual, a contingent of new runners will add an unknown element to the team and their impact is yet to be seen.

Coach Patrick Donovan, ‘03, who begins his 8th season as the Golden Knights’ coach, feels confident in the abilities of this unique group of athletes: “It’s a huge advantage to have seven athletes returning that have all competed at the Varsity level before. They know what the competition is like, they know how to push themselves, and they’re not afraid of what’s in front of them. While we haven’t seen the success we’ve been looking for at the team level in the last few seasons, this is a group of athletes with the talent, the tenacity, and the drive to succeed. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do out on the course this fall.”
