Three Fall Sports Teams Make the Most of the Post-Season

Prep’s Homecoming win against Chadwick was a portent of good things to come. Things continued to get better from there, and for the first time since 2008, the Rebels were second in the Prep League and continued its roll through the first round of the playoffs. The first-round game against Ribet Academy was a nail-biter, with the two teams trading touchdowns until the very end. The game went to overtime and the Rebels eventually pulled out a 34-28 victory at the very end.

In the second-round game against Mission Prep, Flintridge had the home field advantage, but the battle was tough and the Rebels were outmatched. Mission Prep, ranked number 1 in the division, had beat all the other teams that played it by over 30 points. The Rebels came ready to play and never gave up, but after the loss 48-13 loss, the common sentiment among the coaches, athletes, and fans was that the real victory came the second they stepped on the field for the second-round game.

These post-season scores reflect a team effort, both defensively and offensively, with particularly great performances from Chadd Cosse ’13, Tucker Chemel ’13, Dylan Colliflower ’13, Brian Heintz ’14, Stefan Smith ’14, and Kurt Kozacik ’13. This season, Stefan led the team in rushing yards with 1,480 in 148 carries and in rushing touchdowns with 23. He also caught 15 passes for 228 yards and three more touchdowns. Kurt rushed for 1,144 yards and nine touchdowns in 152 carries.

Throughout the season, student fans joined loyal parents, alumni, and faculty at every game. The fan participation was fun to watch and great for school spirit and team morale. It was no different at that last game, when the clock ran out and 13 seniors walked off the field, stunned that their high school football career had come to an end. They were joined by younger players who had always believed that they could win this one and move on to the next round. All the athletes were enveloped in a crowd filled with pride in a fantastic season and they walked off the field with their heads held high over a great turnaround.
