Washington Middle School Celebrates Alumnus Jackie Robinson



Sharon Robinson, daughter of Jackie Robinson, will visit Pasadena Unified School District’s (PUSD) Washington Middle School on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. to share lessons of her father’s legacy with students and staff. Jackie Robinson was a student in PUSD who attended Washington Middle School and John Muir High School in the 1930’s.

160 Washington Middle School students participated in a special Breaking Barriers essay contest sponsored by the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Major League Baseball (MLB) and Scholastic. Students wrote about barriers they have faced and how they used values demonstrated by Jackie Robinson such as courage, persistence and justice to achieve their goals. At the assembly, Sharon Robinson will speak to the students about how her father broke barriers in baseball and society and discuss her book “Jackie Robinson: American Hero.”
