Yes, It Would Be ‘Loverly’

You now have plans for the first of March. St. Monica’s 13th annual auction is set for Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

This year’s theme, “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” comes, of course, from the classic Broadway musical My Fair Lady. Proceeds from the silent and live auctions will benefit St. Monica Academy. One of the evening’s highlights will be a performance of the high school choir.

The auction is always a popular affair. Last year’s auction at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, “An Evening by the Sea,” featured such valuable prizes as:

• Crab (blue crab) Feast for 8 people
• Dodger Suite for 20 people
• Pilgrimage to the Holy Land for two.
• Cuban Dinner for 6 prepared by gourmet chef, inclusive of wine and cocktails
• 2 Luxury Tickets in the NBC TV Suite in Staple Center

The auctions seem to be working. Over the last 11 years, St. Monica students have achieved nine perfect scores of 800 on individual sections of the SAT. Three of those perfect 800′s were earned in 2013. Out of 51 Catholic high schools in the Los Angeles Archdiocese, St. Monica Academy boasted the highest average SAT scores in all three categories in 2013: Reading, Writing, and Math.

St. Monica Academy, an independent, coeducational school for grades one through twelve, seeks to form students in faith, reason, and virtue through a classical education in the Roman Catholic tradition.

St. Monica Academy is at 301 North Orange Grove Blvd, Pasadena. (626) 229-0351. www.stmonicaacademy.com
