To encourage local residents and workers to shop in Pasadena, the City of Pasadena and the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce are implementing the second year of an informational marketing campaign to promote the importance of spending money with Pasadena businesses. Sponsored by the Chamber and the City, the promotional and informational campaign, dubbed Grow Your Community, Shop Pasadena, is intended to encourage those who live and work in Pasadena to also spend their money with Pasadena businesses during the holiday season and beyond.
Grow Your Community, Shop Pasadena will appear on bus shelters throughout Pasadena, thanks to the generous support of CBS Outdoor and the City of Pasadena Department of Transportation. In addition, Pasadena NOW, Pasadena Outlook, Pasadena Weekly, the San Marino Tribune and The Pasadena Star-News have very generously provided advertising space in each publication. Arroyo Magazine and The Rose magazine have also donated ad space to help inform the greater Pasadena area about the benefits of local spending.
“Supporting our local businesses is integral to the ongoing economic health of the Pasadena area, especially in a challenging economic environment,” said Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard. “The shops, restaurants and services that create local jobs and provide the financial bedrock for Pasadena are dependent on local patrons for their livelihood and ongoing vitality. I am pleased the City and the Chamber are collaborating to encourage Pasadena residents, businesses and those who work in our city to shop here in Pasadena.”
“The prosperity of Pasadena is dependent on the financial health of our business community and its ability to provide services and goods necessary to those who live, work and do business in Pasadena,” said Ray Serafin, General Manager of the Sheraton Pasadena and Chair of the Board of the Pasadena Chamber. “One clear way everyone can aid in the recovery of our local economy is to spend money here in Pasadena.”
The promotional campaign was first unveiled during the holiday shopping season in 2008. That campaign was conceived and implemented completely by Art Center students working through The Agency @ Art Center. The 2009 campaign utilizes the same materials, though they have been retooled to update the campaign. Grow Your Community, Shop Pasadena highlights the importance of Pasadena businesses to our local employment base, economy and the financial stability of the City of Pasadena.
“Spending in Pasadena preserves local jobs, maintains local businesses and saves travel time and gas. We are very pleased that so many of our local media outlets have stepped up to support the campaign,” Chamber CEO and President Paul Little said. “Sales tax dollars, business license fees, property taxes and other assessments paid by business return money to Pasadena to pay for essential services such as police and fire protection and also support our local public schools, parks and even Pasadena City College.”
“It is in everyone’s best interest to promote the viability of our local businesses and encourage those who appreciate and benefit from the excellent quality of life in Pasadena to support it by shopping locally and patronizing those businesses, large and small, that pay a dividend to our community,” said Eric Duyshart, Economic Development Manager for the City of Pasadena.
The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and Civic Association is a professional business organization. Since the earliest days of Pasadena, the Chamber has played a major role in the development of this internationally renowned city. Since 1888, when the organization was founded as the Board of Trade, the Chamber’s primary purpose has been the enhancement of both the business climate and the quality of life in Pasadena. The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce serves 1500 members.
