City Neighborhood Specific Workshops Continue Today with Focus on East Colorado

The City of Pasadena is hosting a workshop Tuesday, July 17, on the East Colorado Specific Plan, which envisions the transformation of this corridor into a series of pedestrian-oriented villages and districts in the vicinity of Hill Street, Sierra Madre Boulevard, Pasadena City College, and the Allen Metro Gold Line station.

The workshop will be conducted at the Pasadena City College, at 1570 E. Colorado Blvd., from 6 to 8 p.m.

This is the seventh in a series of eight workshops on specific plans that apply to the eight development corridors of Pasadena.

The series started in May after the City launched the highly anticipated program “Our Pasadena – Putting the Plan in Motion” in March. “Our Pasadena” is a three-year effort to update all of Pasadena’s Specific Plans and the Zoning Code, considered to be a major step toward implementation of the City’s recently updated General Plan which guides Pasadena’s future growth and development.

Tuesday’s workshop, administered by the Department of Planning and Community Development, will address the East Colorado neighborhood’s unique characteristics, needs, and challenges. The specific plan centers on promoting the area which currently contains mostly auto-oriented commercial uses supporting adjacent residential neighborhoods and Pasadena City College, with direct access to the Allen Metro Gold Line station, and transforming it into a mix of uses and amenities creating distinct activity nodes and gathering places.

During the workshop, there will be a brief introduction followed by break-out sessions where participants can discuss issues, voice concerns, ask questions, and provide comments.

Next week, the last of eight specific plan workshops on the Our Pasadena program will be held for the Lamanda Park specific plan, on Thursday, July 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pasadena Christian Church.

More information about the workshops can be found on the Our Pasadena website, www.ourpasadena.org/specific-plans, or by calling (626) 744-7311.
