City Keeps Open Rose Bowl Loop for Weekend

Exhorts Public to “Exercise” Social Distancing

Emphasizing plans could change if proper social distancing is not sufficiently maintained by the public, a city official said Thursday afternoon the Rose Bowl Loop will remain open Friday and this weekend.

City spokesperson Lisa Derderian said that if members of the public don’t abide by distancing rules officials may need to evaluate modifications to Loop access or potentialy its full closure.

“We have electronic signage up emphasizing the need to remain six-feet apart yet we’re still receiving calls to our police department and comments on our social media,” Derderian said.

The complaints have grown so loud that earlier this week, while in self-isolation, Mayor Terry Tornek took a rode in his car to see the Loop for himself.

So far, the Loop remains opened. Los Angeles County however closed trails on Monday.

“Because of overcrowding we’ve decided to close our County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation trails,” Barger wrote on Monday.

In Pasadena, Derderian said the city recognizes the importance of mental and physical well-being during these trying times.

“Because of this we are keeping the Rose Bowl loop open to accommodate recreational users to get out and exercise and get fresh air,” she said.

“Although, we need the public to ‘exercise’ proper social distancing, even if in a family group, so we all can benefit from this scenic location.”
