1 New Death Added to Pasadena’s COVID-19 Death Toll on Wednesday

New COVID-19 infections in Pasadena remained in single digits for a ninth consecutive day on Wednesday, although the city added a single new fatality to the virus’ death toll, officials said.

The latest victim was an 86-year-old man who lived in the general community, as opposed to in an assisted living center, according to city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian. He was the 329th person to succumb to the virus in Pasadena.

Wednesday’s reported death followed five days without any fatalities recorded in the city.

An average of 5.6 new daily infections had been detected over the prior week, city data showed.

Huntington Hospital reported treating 25 COVID-19 patients on Wednesday, with five of them being treated in intensive care units.

More than 43,800 Pasadenans had received single doses of two-dose vaccine regimens, and another 25,000 were fully inoculated, according to the latest city figures available.

Los Angeles County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer on Wednesday reported another 75 deaths due to COVID-19. The new fatalities lifted the countywide death toll from throughout the pandemic to 22,580.

Ferrer said one of the newly announced deaths was a person under age 18 — only the second person that young to die in the county during the pandemic. The person had an underlying health condition, the nature of which was not immediately known.

The county also reported another 897 confirmed cases of COVID-19, raising the cumulative total since the pandemic began to 1,211,733.

According to state figures, there were 861 people hospitalized in the county as of Wednesday, with 225 people in ICUs. The overall number actually reflected a slight increase from Tuesday, when 857 people were hospitalized.

At the state level, public health officials announced 2,441 new infections and 205 additional deaths on Wednesday, bringing the statewide totals to 3,532,496 documented cases of COVID-19 and 55,577 deaths.

The statewide average positivity rate over the prior week increased slightly to 2%, according to California Department of Public Health data.

As of Wednesday, L.A. County represented 34% of California total COVID-19 infections and 41% of the state’s deaths.
