Police said a 13-year old boy, in fear for his life, surrendered his hoverboard to an armed robber near La Pintoresca Library Friday night.

The boy was carrying his green hoverboard as he stood on the northeast corner of of North Raymond Avenue and Washington Boulevard about 8 p.m., Pasadena Police Lt. John Mercado said.

Mercado said a 20 to 25-year, clean shaven old Latino man wearing a black baseball cap approached the boy, pulled back his sweatshirt to reveal a handgun in his jeans waistband, and demanded the hoverboard.

The boy complied.

The robber fled in an unknown direction, Mercado said, while the boy ran home and called police.

Mercado said the boy was not injured and there is no current value of the dollar loss of the hoverboard.
