An 18-year-old Pasadena man suffered a fractured nose and multiple bruises after being lured to a park and attacked by a group of assailants who stole his wallet and cell phone early Tuesday morning, according to police.
The robbery occurred around midnight on May 13 in the area of 1500 East Villa Street, Pasadena Police Lt. Monica Cuellar reported.
The victim was befriended by a Hispanic man in his twenties who asked if he wanted to get something to eat, Cuellar said. Instead of going to a restaurant, the suspect drove the victim to a park area where the attack occurred.
When they got out of the car, the victim was jumped by the suspect and then a group of men and women, Cuellar said. The victim suffered a fractured nose during the assault, along with bruises across his body.
The assailants stole the victim’s wallet containing an undisclosed amount of cash and his cell phone before fleeing.
Following the attack, the victim contacted family members who transported him to a hospital where he reported the incident to authorities, according to Cuellar.
The victim estimated there were approximately 11 people involved in the attack, though he couldn’t provide detailed descriptions because “it was pretty quick” and “he was protecting himself,” Cuellar said.
The victim reported that the attackers “were all masked up so he couldn’t really tell” their ages or other identifying features.
Cuellar noted that detectives are continuing to investigate the case.
