Monrovia Police found the cats surrounded by feces and maggots when they opened the stolen vehicle after towing it. Animal control officers immediately responded to assess and intake the animals.
The limited-time promotion, effective immediately through June 22, aims to create kennel space for the rescued cats as kennel spaces are currently filling. The initiative encourages community adoptions to make room for the animals requiring immediate care.
“It’s crucial for people to reach out before a situation gets out of control, as early intervention is key to preventing future crises,” said Chris Ramon, Interim President and CEO of Pasadena Humane. “We hope that by waiving adoption fees, we can find loving homes for our current adoptable cat population and make room for those who need our care.”
The organization’s veterinary staff and animal welfare professionals mobilized to care for the cats. The case remains under investigation.
Pasadena Humane encourages the community to adopt current shelter cats or donate online at pasadenahumane.org/19cats to support the rescued animals’ care.
Pasadena Humane is more than an animal shelter, operating as a community-supported animal resource center since 1903. In 2023, Pasadena Humane helped nearly 40,000 animals through adoptions, wildlife rehabilitation, lost & found, veterinary services and surrender prevention assistance.
