Hyundai has hit a bull’s-eye with the 2012 Hyundai Sonata GLS. Not only is the exterior sleek and sculpted but its interior boasts a whole pack of modern features.
From stop to start the Sonata delivers. You’d swear it was packing a V6 under its hood but in reality it’s a 4 banger that produces 200 horsepower. Although powerful, the engine is stingy on gas delivering 24/35 mpg.
From beginning to end the Sonata excels in every category with a superb breaking system, responsive power steering, excellent cornering ability and a suspension that is light on the bones.
The interior boasts plenty of room for all but the tallest and even they won’t complain too much, the gadgets on the dash were eye-appealing and easy to figure out and noise levels in the cockpit were a bit loud but tolerable. The blue backlighted dash makes the gauges easy to read even on the darkest stretch of road.
Outside the Sonata shines with chrome trim, a dapper grille and sleek headlamps. It’s a real looker that’s has a yesteryear quality to it. A car you won’t mind handing over to the valet at the Ritz.
And because it’s a Hyundai it is full of standard features such as the new Blue Link infotainment and safety service, iPod/USB music capabilities, Bluetooth phone pairing and audio/cruise controls mounted on the steering wheel. It also comes standard with enough safety equipment to make even a parent of a teen-aged driver feel secure allowing their 17 year-old to take it out on the town.
If you are in the market for a midsized sedan give the Hyundai Sonata a test drive. You’ll be glad you did.
