24 Local Nonprofit Organizations Awarded $511,000 in Pasadena Community Foundation Capital Grants Funding

Over half million dollars in Pasadena Community Foundation Capital Grant funding is on its way to 24 Pasadena-area nonprofit organizations to support their facility improvement projects and equipment purchases.

PCF’s annual Capital Grant Program  supports the infrastructure that nonprofit organizations need to carry out their mission, including equipment purchases, construction, and renovation.

PCF is especially proud to award its $50,000 Capital Campaign Grant to Pasadena Conservatory of Music in support of its Common Ground Campaign, which will help create several new classrooms and studios, as well as a new courtyard and a 140-seat amphitheater.

“These improvements will become the heart of the school and strengthen the sense of community on campus,” said Conservatory executive director Stephen McCurry.

Projects funded by the 2022 Capital Grants Program include a new sleeping area and case management office for the Women’s Room at Friends in Deed; new radio communications tools for Pasadena Humane’s public safety officers; screening equipment for HEAR Center, and an upgrade to the Altadena Library FabLab, which is a “Makerspace” for library patrons.

Several of the 24 Capital Grant recipients are arts and culture organizations, which asked for support to enhance their delivery of the arts and to provide new opportunities to build community.

PCF’s funding will help upgrade stage equipment at Pasadena Playhouse, Lineage Performing Arts, and A Noise Within, while at organizations like Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) and Red Hen Press, grant awards will be used to adapt event spaces for new audiences and neighboring organizations.

“The pandemic changed audience habits,” notes SCPR’s Executive Director of Live Programming and Events, John Cohn. “We’ve had to rethink (our) space and be more intentional with programming.”

SCPR will use its grant award to install a set of permanently integrated cameras inside the Crawford Family Forum and create a hybrid space for in-person and virtual events.

Funding helps nonprofits regain some footing following pandemic disruptions.

Jennifer DeVoll, PCF’s President and CEO, points out that PCF’s 2022 funding helps nonprofits regain some  footing following pandemic disruptions.

“Our community has endured a great deal in the last 3 years, and PCF is happy to see many local  organizations reimagining their facilities and investing in technology and equipment to support  post-pandemic programming. The Capital Grants Program is PCF’s largest grant investment of  the year, and we’re thrilled to strengthen the mission of 24 of our nonprofit partner agencies.
