The off-ramp from the southbound 710 Freeway to California Blvd. in West Pasadena will shut down again Friday possible for the last time to repair a sinkhole that opened in the roadway last week.
The City of Pasadena contractor will be back with single-lane closure for the ramp from 7:00 a.m. The intent is to have the process complete and the ramp fully re-opened by 3 p.m. Friday, a City official said.
The sinkhole was caused by an aging storm drain pipe that collapsed. The sinkhole was discovered on Wednesday, March. The sinkhole was about 5 feet deep.
The repairs were contracted by the city of Pasadena because Caltrans returned the area, known as the “710 Stub,” to City of Pasadena control last year.
The contractor filled the sinkhole with concrete and then will repave the roadway. The contractor will also be installing new storm drain pipes in the area to prevent future sinkholes.
Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and to expect delays.
A detour has been set up and is available. [See map below]
