Sushi Enya Rolls on to Colorado Boulevard

We’ve found just the fix for your sushi craving. Sushi Enya is the newest addition to the Pasadena dining scene and promises a classy array of Japanese style sushi and fusion-style rolls.

The owner, Enya Kimiyasu will be behind the sushi bar along with thirteen other chefs including, the crew from their Arts District location. In addition to their sushi and rolls, Sushi Enya is known for their omakase, or tasting menu. This specially prepared course menu changes every day and is meant to be eaten without soy sauce or wasabi.

“We design each piece with flavors in mind – the amount of rice, the style of fish, it’s meant to be eaten without additional sauce,” said Sean Sumlin, General Manager of Sushi Enya Pasadena.

Unlike other omakase, Sushi Enya includes beef, duck and other meat as well as fish. The meal starts with lighter fish, transitions to fattier items and then ends with satisfying fare. If you’re feeling adventurous, this dining experience is your best bet because it allows the chef to express his creativity and focus on each individual course.

“We bring many different elements to the course menu and just try to be original and be us,” said Sumlin.

You can also order off their sushi menu of Japanese style bites fresh from the fish market or pick something off their roll menu. Sushi Enya plans to focus on sushi as opposed to more American-style fusion rolls; however, they do have a vegan roll for diners who don’t eat fish. They also plan to add beer, wine and sake to the menu.

Grab a seat at the sushi bar, where food is served one bite at a time, and watch the chefs in action. The restaurant is decorated in the ginza style and features light wood, exposed brick and soft lighting. Sushi Enya does not accept reservations or take out orders to preserve the integrity of their menu, so plan for a sit down dining experience.
