Pasadena confirmed eight more cases of the Coronavirus on Tuesday as the number increased from 25 to 33, according to Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian.

The city still has not recorded any deaths related to the virus.

The news came one day after Health Director Ying Ying Goh updated the Pasadena City Council.

On Monday the city reported 10 additional cases.

On Monday, Pasadena Health Director Ying Ying Goh said that nearly half of Huntington Hospitals 70 ventilators are currently in use.

Goh told the City Council on Monday that 28 of the ventilators are currently in use at the hospital.

According to Goh, 19 patients at Huntington Hospital are infected with the Coronavirus. Two Pasadena patients are at Huntington Hospital along with seven others who are not from Pasadena.

According to City Manager Steve Mermell, the city can get an additional 100 ventilators.

Local officials met with officials from the hospital last week to form a surge plan just in case local numbers rapidly increase.

So far, 170 people have been tested for the virus about 10-11 percent have tested positive and 47 people are awaiting test results.
According to Dr. Goh, the 10 percent rate is about what the rest of LA County is experiencing.

Hospitals around the country are struggling to find more ventilators.

According to Time Magazine, California had about 7,500 ventilators across the state’s hospital systems at the beginning of the pandemic. State officials want to get another 10,000, but so far have added only 4,252.

The state received about 170 broken ventilators from the federal government. They have been sent to a company to be repaired.

There are at least 151 cases of the Coronavirus in Pasadena and nearby cities according to figures released on Tuesday afternoon by the LA County Health Department.

Nearby Glendale has 76 confirmed cases. Alhambra has 13 cases of infection. Arcadia has 10 confirmed cases of infection.

La Canada-Flintridge has eight cases, while South Pasadena and San Gabriel each has 6. Monrovia has 5 cases.

The county did not report numbers for nearby Altadena.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed 10 new deaths and 548 new cases of the Coronavirus on Tuesday as the county reached 3011 cases of infection.

“This is the highest daily number of deaths we’ve reported to date, and our hearts go out to every family who has experienced loss related to this pandemic,” said Barbara Ferrer, Los Angeles County public health director. “Though we expect to continue to see a rise in positive COVID-19 cases and sadly, deaths in the weeks to come, it is crucial that we continue to stay home as much as possible, practice social distancing if we must go out for essential services, self-isolate when we are sick, and self-quarantine if exposed to someone who is sick. We are all in this together.”

Additional information regarding some of the new cases is pending further investigation. Over the last 48 hours, there have been 890 new cases.

Pasadena has its own health department and so far that agency has reported no deaths.
