Police have beefed up patrols and are planning a community meeting on Thursday in response to a recent spate of violence in Pasadena, which has included four shootings since Monday.
Most recently, shortly after the community meeting was announced, a car-to-car shooting took place about 8:15 p.m. along Washington Boulevard, just west of Los Robles Avenue.
On Tuesday a man was shot and seriously wounded about 5:30 p.m. at Robinson Park, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave., according to the Pasadena Police Department.
Two men were shot and critically wounded shortly before 10 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of North Summit Avenue. And parked cars were shot, but no injuries were reported, when gunfire rang out in a parking lot at Fair Oaks Avenue and Washington Boulevard about 10:45 a.m. Monday.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also investigated a shooting late Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of the Altadena Library in which two men were wounded and hospitalized in stable condition, but further details regarding the shooting were not available Wednesday.
We have seen a recent increase in gun violence both in Altadena and in Pasadena to include the area of Robinson Park,” Pasadena police Lt. William Grisafe said Wednesday evening.
“Yesterday’s shooting at Robinson Park is extremely concerning, as there were several children at the park who were participating in sporting practices at the time of the shooting,” he said.
Coincidentally, officers had just arrived at another section of the park moments before the shooting took place, Grisafe said.
The investigations were ongoing, but being hampered by an apparent lack of witness cooperation, according to the lieutenant.
Police officials and Pasadena City Councilman John Kennedy were planning an emergency community meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Robinson Park to discuss the recent violence.
Deputy Police Chief Cheryl Moody said the department was taking measures to address the spike in shootings.
“Over the past two years, gun violence in Pasadena has adversely impacted several communities and resulted in numerous people being injured,” she said.
“It is especially concerning when those responsible, recklessly shoot at a city park, where children are playing sports. Parks are for families and children to enjoy, not a place where they need to be fearful they could be struck by gunfire,” Moody said. “The police department will increase our visibility to the impacted areas while working with other city departments and community organizations to help deter any future violence.”
