Suspect Reportedly Assaults Woman With Knife, Then Bites Her, at Halloween Party

A Halloween party turned violent early Saturday morning when a Los Angeles man assaulted a woman with a knife before leading police on a brief chase, police said.

Ronald Gilliard, 48, was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, evading police, hit-and-run, and driving under the influence, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Keith Gomez.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the 400 block of North Oakland when Gilliard became belligerent with a 40-year-old female acquaintance at a party.

According to Gomez, Gilliard produced a knife during the confrontation and held it against the woman before biting her, causing minor injuries.

As officers arrived at the scene, Gilliard fled in an older model Honda Civic, striking two parked vehicles before leading police on a pursuit that lasted just over a minute and covered less than a mile, according to Gomez.

The chase ended at North Lake Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard when Gilliard pulled over.

He was taken into custody with some resistance Gomez noted.

Gilliard, who sustained a minor cut to his left hand during the incident, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and a blood draw related to the DUI investigation, Gomez said.

The female victim did not go to the hospital for her injuries, according to police.
