A 37-year-old man was charged Monday with assault for allegedly stabbing a man last week at a Metro rail station in Pasadena.
Antonio Olivera is facing one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury involving the alleged attack last Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The victim was found last Thursday morning with multiple stab wounds to his upper body on the pedestrian bridge leading to the Sierra Madre Villa station and taken to a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau and Metro.
The suspect — who was wearing a security guard uniform but was not employed by Metro — was taken into custody moments later, authorities said. He was using the Metro system for transit purposes, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The investigation into the stabbing prompted Metro to operate a bus shuttle between the Allen and Arcadia stations.
Olivera, whose name was released by the District Attorney’s Office, has remained behind bars since his arrest, according to jail records.
He is due back in a Pasadena courtroom April 30. A date is scheduled to be set then for a hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to allow the case against him to proceed to trial.
