Los Angeles County Begins Devil’s Gate Reservoir Maintenance Project

Los Angeles County Public Works announced Wednesday it will begin annual maintenance at Devil’s Gate Reservoir, removing approximately 100,000 cubic yards of sediment to provide flood protection and preserve the Hahamongna Watershed.

The project follows the original reservoir restoration completed in August 2021, which initially excavated nearly 1.3 million cubic yards of sediment and restored over 70 acres of habitat.

Contractor mobilization for staging begins in June, with truck hauling operations commencing July 15, the department said.

Trucks will transport sediment to Sheldon Pit in Sun Valley, with up to 300 truck trips scheduled daily. The hauling route will follow West 210 Freeway to Foothill Boulevard, Osborne Street, Glenoaks Boulevard, and Sheldon Street. Operations will run Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.

County officials noted that best management practices remain unchanged from 2024, with all safety and environmental protection measures still in effect. Organic debris from the project will be sent to Scholl Canyon Landfill.
