Ché Ahn, senior pastor of Harvest Rock Church and longtime Pasadena resident, will formally announce his candidacy for California governor on Saturday, Aug. 2, during a campaign rally at the outdoor plaza of the Ambassador Auditorium, according to a press release issued July 28.
Immediately following the announcement, attendees are invited to join Hope California, described in the statement as a “statewide movement of faith, unity, and service.”
“I believe California is worth fighting for,” Ahn said in the statement. “We need leaders who will defend freedom, promote public safety, and restore moral clarity to our government. It’s time to rebuild this state—not with politics as usual, but with courage, compassion, and common sense.”
“We stand at a crossroads,” he continued. “It’s time for courageous, compassionate leadership-rooted in integrity and common sense. I’m running to protect families, restore public safety, rebuild the economy, and renew our shared hope for California’s future.”
Ahn rose to national prominence in 2020 after successfully suing Gov. Gavin Newsom at the U.S. Supreme Court over pandemic-era church closures—a case widely cited in debates over religious liberty.
The campaign’s announcement also cites Ahn’s recent efforts to support California communities, including delivering aid to wildfire victims, providing care for first responders, and offering encouragement to peace officers impacted by the No Kings riots.
In addition to his pastoral and ministry work, Ahn has founded multiple media and investment ventures focused on values-driven impact and has ministered in more than 90 nations.
He lives in Pasadena with his wife, Sue Ahn, and is a father and grandfather.
