Fuller Seminary’s School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy (SOPMFT) is celebrating its 60th year and will mark the milestone with an upcoming 60th Anniversary Celebration Weekend event on October 3 and 4, 2025.
Since its beginning, Fuller’s SOPMFT has been a pioneer in the integration of psychology and Christian theology, and, over the past six decades, has equipped students for their chosen vocations in an environment of clinical excellence, research innovation, and academic distinction. The 60th Anniversary Celebration Weekend will gather alumni, students, faculty, and others for a number of organized events, including a Celebration Dinner at the University Club of Pasadena and a special continuing education workshop, “Sex Therapy Trends and Insights from 50 Years of Clinical Practice,” led by Dr. Clifford Penner and Joyce Penner. Dr. Penner—a Fuller alum who, with his wife Joyce, revolutionized the understanding of intimacy, connection, and sexuality in faith communities with their groundbreaking work—will also be honored for his legacy of work, as part of the weekend’s events.
Dr. Cynthia Eriksson, SOPMFT dean, said, “For 60 years, the School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy has been equipping therapists, researchers, scholars, and consultants to bring hope and healing to their communities. This legacy is one that I am immensely proud of and one that I want us to steward well into our future. Our world faces challenges that can seem insurmountable, but our hope in Christ and our call as healers centers us for our next steps. Please join us as we celebrate 60 years of teaching, research, and training, and as we celebrate the ways that Fuller alumni have impacted the world.”
