Former California State Assemblymember Chris Holden’s weather-challenged 26th Annual Community Resource Fair and Block Party will proceed today from 2 to 6 p.m. along the 500 block of East Jackson Street in Pasadena’s Orange Heights neighborhood, despite a moderate chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.
The event, originally postponed due to early September heat warnings, will close East Jackson Street to vehicle traffic for four hours. LA Fire Justice is hosting this year’s gathering, marking a new chapter for the long-running civic celebration.
Despite the delay, organizers emphasized continued support for Altadena businesses, citing community commitment as the reason for rescheduling rather than canceling. “It’s a slight delay, not a loss of enthusiasm,” they said.
The event blends a resource fair with neighborhood activities and entertainment. Residents can connect with local organizations and access community services while enjoying the block party atmosphere.
Forecasters expect mostly cloudy skies with temperatures near 76°F at the start, easing to the low 70s by evening. The National Weather Service places precipitation odds at 20–30%, with the highest thunderstorm risk between 3 and 4 p.m.
The hour-by-hour forecast includes:
- 2–3 p.m.: Mostly cloudy; chance of showers and slight thunder risk; SSW winds 5–7 mph
- 3–4 p.m.: Peak convective window; isolated cells may produce quick downpours and lightning
- 4–6 p.m.: Cloud deck holds; diminishing storm chances; temps slide into low 70s
